2025/4/27 Weekend Diary
Today is a bit of a special day.
I went surfing with my son who had just come back from work. It was a pleasant surprise that he had suddenly been able to take a day off. We headed to the beach early in the morning, and while the cold water woke us up, we fought the waves. While thinking that we still couldn’t lose, I was impressed by my son’s light movements.
After surfing, we went near the port.
I ate some fresh local fish sushi. The elasticity and sweetness that only freshly caught fish can bring a smile to my face. We also had a set of mentaiko rice balls and fish soup, and enjoyed the seafood to the fullest. After all, this is what a seaside town should be like.
In the evening, we had a drink together.
We had hot oden purchased from our usual oden shop, and boiled kogomi that we had harvested in the mountains yesterday. In addition, we also had some miso-pickled gourd that we had been given on the table. It may be a slightly austere combination, but it goes well with sake. I found myself drinking more and more of these unpretentious snacks.
Ending the day like this makes me realize that the greatest luxury is the ordinary everyday life.
Nothing flashy, but the time I spend laughing with my son is the best treat of all.
I started this blog because I wanted to keep a record of these little days.
I hope to keep doing it, even as I get older.
Today was another great day, swept up in the waves, the sake, and the laughter. Hahaha!
